Introduction to Digital Painting is a 10-week introductory class in which students will learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, how to use their Wacom tablets to draw and paint in Photoshop, and how to use the fundamentals of blending, light & shadow, and color to create beautiful digital paintings.

LESSON PLAN:
WEEK 1
In this class, students will learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop and how to utilize the unique capabilities of their Wacom tablets within Adobe Photoshop.
WEEK 2
In this class, students will gain a fundamental understanding of value, light & shadow, and how to blend colors in Photoshop.
WEEK 3
In this class, students will be introduced to Photoshop layers - an incredibly powerful system that allows artists to effectively separate elements and work on them without affecting other elements on the virtual canvas.
WEEK 4
In this class, students will be introduced to the world of color via a basic understanding of color schemes and relationships.
WEEK 5
In this class, students will gain a much stronger understanding of color, light, and shadow, and how they occur in the natural world.
WEEK 6
In this class, students will put their new-found knowledge to the test as they continue working on a color & light-based assignment.
WEEK 7
In this class, students will be introduced to some of the finer details of Photoshop (quite literally), as they learn to utilize texture and custom brushes to add detail and flavor to their work.
WEEK 8
In this class, students will once again put their knowledge to the test as they work on their final project: an illustration that combines everything they have learned during the course.
WEEK 9
In this class, students will learn some advanced Photoshop techniques as they approach the finish with their final projects.
WEEK 10
In this final class, we will have a critique of the students' final projects as we wrap up the 10-week course.
